When are group classes held?
Our group class schedule is available on our Group Class Schedule Website.
Do I need a partner?
Partners are not necessary. Private lessons are held either for a couple or one on one with an instructor who will teach you to lead or follow. Partners are rotated in our group classes so you can get a feel of different leaders or followers.
What is a leader or follower?
In partner dancing there are separate roles for the two people dancing together, a leader (or lead) and follower (or follow). Traditionally, the male partner leads and the female partner follows.
The leader decides which moves or figures will be danced, the direction of the move and how to move the follow. The follower follows the lead.
More information regarding leading and following is available on Wikipedia
What should I wear?
Comfortable shoes that are not too sticky nor slippery. Rubber soled shoes are most likely too sticky. For men we recommend leather soled dress shoes or suede bottomed dance shoes. If there is snow or rain, please bring an additional pair of shoes to change in to in order to keep our dance floor safe and clean.
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. For men, casual long or short sleeved shirts and pants. For women, pants or a skirt that does not constrict your movement.
How much do lessons cost?
Group classes and practice parties range from FREE to $15.00 per person per hour. The actual fee depends on how many you purchase at a time and whether private lessons are a part of your dance education.
Private lessons costs depend on the instructor, your dance goals and your budget. We recommend contacting the studio to schedule a free introductory lesson where a cost estimate can be custom built for you.
Can I practice at your studio?
If you take at least one private lesson from any instructor at Cinema Ballroom, you can practice anytime that week for free. Practice time can be purchased on either an hourly basis or for a monthly contract rate. Pricing for practice time is available on our facility rental webpage.
